Pencils are Cool

Lynn Thaler

I enjoy collecting pencils.  I hope to have the world’s largest collection of pencils one day and break the world record.  Currently I have 5,806 pencils.

Here are some interesting facts about pencils:

– America began to mass produce pencils in 1861

– Pencils are made of clay, graphite, and incense cedar wood (there is no lead in pencils)

– The world’s largest pencil is 65 feet tall

– Most pencils sold in Europe do not have erasers

– Most pencils sold in the US have erasers

– Henry David Thoreau made his own pencils

I admit it may be weird, but I think pencils are cool.
